'BEST' Success Story: ILO lauds undertaking's approach towards COVID-19 rise in Mumbai

United Nation's International Labour Organisation has recognised and applauded the BEST in Mumbai for responding to the coronavirus pandemic with effectivity and promptness. India's largest fleet of buses are operated under the wing of BEST, which is the only organisation in the world that inked its place in the official bulletin of the ILO.

</script></p><p>The wheels of Mumbai, BEST quickly assumed the position of Mumbai's lifeline with the shutdown of the suburban 'local' train network in the city. Besides this, the BEST had also set-up a COVID-19 response team to test all its employees by the rapid antigen method for signs of infection. </p><h2>Between April & November 30, BEST reported 2,833 COVID cases of which 2,687 patients recovered</h2><p>A telemonitoring technique, which was termed as a 'unique approach in combating the virus' was also developed by the BEST, under which medical expertise would observe the health conditions of its infected employees. The ILO article highlighted that this system of regular surveillance boosted patient recovery. The civic transport and electricity provider also ensured that all its employees get hospital beds for treatment during the peak of the infection curve in the city. </p><p><ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1928181993792414" data-ad-slot="7448307427" data-ad-format="auto" data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

</script></p><p>Between April and November 30, BEST reported 2,833 COVID cases of which 2,687 patients recovered. With this, the BEST has recorded a high recovery rate of 95% which amazed the global labour agency, given BEST employees were fighting the virus from the frontlines in the hotspots of Mumbai. A total of 52 employees succumbed to the virus, and the officials have informed that relatives of all deceased employees were offered a job at the undertaking. </p>
