Mumbai records 602 fresh COVID cases on Thursday, the highest single-day spike in 77 days

The rising threat of COVID-19 cases has gripped Mumbai yet again. On Thursday, the city logged in 602 fresh cases, marking a 77 day high, after 624 cases on October 6. As per reports, a single death also accounted for yesterday's stats. As of now, Mumbai is nursing a total of 2,813 active cases.

Big gatherings & parties prohibited in Mumbai to prevent overcrowding during Christmas & New Year

Amid the fears of emergent Omicron variant of coronavirus, the Maharashtra governement has directed to put a sombre note to all Christmas and New Year festivities in Mumbai. For the second straight year, parties, big gatherings and mega-events in India's commercial capital will remain cancelled, Mumbai's Guardian Minister announced on Wednesday.

Notably, the order exempts all religious activities related to the Christmas festival, which shall be conducted as usual in Churches. Other detailed guidelines will be issued soon, officials said.

Mumbai civic body issues new SOPs, city buildings with 5 or more COVID cases to be sealed

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has issued new COVID-19 guidelines ahead of the expected rise of the 'third wave'. As per the SOPs announced by the municipal agency, all buildings in Mumbai which report 5 or more infections will be sealed shut. Police officers will be stationed at the entrance of such buildings, to restrict and monitor residents' movement, added reports.

Mumbai & other Maha districts to follow lockdown-like curbs till June 15, with some relaxations

The Maharashtra government on Sunday announced the extension of the present lockdown-like restrictions in the state till June 15. However, the administration has awarded certain relaxations in wake of the substantial infection arrest across the territory, as per people's expectations. The government also released a set of guidelines regarding the eased protocols which highlights that all shops that were earlier allowed to operate only from 7 AM to 11 AM, can now function till 2 PM.
