Bringing relief for regular commuters, the Maharashtra administration and Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai have together relaxed the restriction of COVID negative reports for fully inoculated visitors entering the state. Previously, the aforesaid restraint required travelers to produce a negative COVID report for a test conducted within 48 hours prior to the entry. Now, the dropping tallies have led to the current intervention in a bid to benefit people traveling to Mumbai, frequently.
Restriction relaxed more than 2 months after it was imposed
As per reports, the tweak was made for the sake of the travelers who take round trips between Mumbai and other business centres like Delhi, on the same day. It becomes very difficult for such individuals to get the tests done, repeatedly. In light of this, the authorities have done away with the requirement of the necessary COVID negative report for individuals who have taken both doses of the vaccine. Reportedly, the BMC Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal made an announcement in this regard on Tuesday.
Notably, the Maharashtra government first intervened with the restriction in the first half of May and then the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai issued similar orders. Reportedly, the restraints were first applicable for tourists from certain states including Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Kerala. Later, the requirement of negative COVID reports was amplified to cover all national tourists coming to Mumbai from different territories.
5.7% of the eligible population fully vaccinated in the country
It is noteworthy that the vaccination drives have taken an accelerated path in the country now and a lot of individuals stand fully vaccinated with both doses of the vaccine. As per records, 5.7% of the country's eligible population has received both doses of the immunity booster vaccine while 23.4% of individuals have taken the first jab. Thereby, the latest tweak in the travel protocol shall accrue advantages to a number of individuals flying to Mumbai.
454 new cases and 938 recoveries were registered in Mumbai on Tuesday. Besides, the city has 10,611 active cases and it is important to maintain sufficient caution despite the relaxation of curbs.
