Central Railway to start 12 AC local trains on Mumbai's Harbour line from Dec 1

Starting Wednesday, 12 new air-conditioned suburban trains will be added to the existing local fleet of Central Railways on the Harbour line. Reportedly, these additional services will ply along Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Panvel railway station route. According to the General Manager of Central Railways, the first AC train service will start from Vashi to CMST, in the morning.

In a first, Mumbai local train coaches get new television screens

In a major upgrade, the Western Railways has installed LCD infotainment screens in Mumbai locals trains. These screens will display commercial advertisements and railway/public interest information in trains. Reportedly, the initiative aims to increase non-fare revenue in about 20 EMU rakes. As of Sunday, a total of 8 local trains have been fitted with the screens.

QR code-based Universal Travel Passes to be issued for Mumbai locals, metro & monorail

Despite the pandemic restrictions, people have been using fake ID cards to commute through Mumbai local trains. In a bid to curb this blatant flouting of rules, the Maharashtra government along with the railway authorities, is introducing a Universal Travel Pass which shall be QR code-based. In the wake of the Delta Plus cases in the state, this restriction shall help in ensuring the safety of the citizens by keeping a check on the spread of this deadly contagion.

QR code-based pass to be made compulsory once again, for traveling in Mumbai local trains

In an attempt to stagger crowds in Mumbai local trains, the Maharashtra Disaster Management Team has decided to reintroduce the QR code-based railway pass. This will simultaneously dissuade illicit travellers (those without local train travel permission) or those with face identity cards to board the trains. The Railways have stated that they have been working in association with the state government to facilitate the pass-service, with full support.

Central Railways conducts online survey ahead of restarting local trains in Mumbai

The Central Railways on Thursday rolled out an online survey on Twitter to seek feedback on the local train services in Mumbai. Resultantly, a set of questions have been listed on Twitter - ranging from commute patterns to preferred routes. This will assist the Railway authorities to analyze the public opinion of local trains and special AC rakes, forming the base of all changes which will be relayed.
