Colleges in Mumbai & other Maharashtra districts to commence academic year from November 1

All Maharashtra colleges have been directed to commence their academic session from November 1, albeit digitally. On Monday, the State Higher and Technical Minister, Uday Samant, clarified that resumption of physical classes at educational institutes poses a high risk, especially with the impending fear of the third wave rise. The decision regarding the reopening of colleges for offline lectures will be taken as per the pandemic status in November.

Malls in Mumbai shut in line with the new 'Break the Chain' orders

After operating for only two days, malls in Mumbai have been asked to shut down again over their inability to comply with the state's 'Break the Chain' orders, issued on Monday. In the circular, the Maharashtra government has underlined the need for full vaccination and a 14 day waiting period after being vaccinated, for all staffers at city malls. Earlier the BMC had announced that a single dose vaccine will suffice.

Vaccination drive resumes in Mumbai for 18-plus citizens from today!

Owing to an acute shortage of vaccines, inoculation centres across Mumbai were shut for a period of 3 days, from 9 July to 11 July. While there is no provision for booking slots on the weekend, these centres remained shut on Friday as well and with the supplies sufficiently replenished now, they have resumed functioning from today. Citizens can visit their nearest centres between 9 AM to 5 PM with prior appointments or get registered on-spot to receive their immunisation dose.

Vaccination drive for pregnant women to set pace in Mumbai, Monday onwards

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, in line with the Centre's directives, has decided to extend the benefits of the city's COVID vaccination drive to pregnant women now. From Monday onwards, public centres in the MMR will administer the vaccine jab to this segment of the population. As per reports, there are approximately one lakh ladies in this category.

Mumbai's Haffkine Biopharma to produce 22.8 crore Covaxin doses to boost domestic vax production

On Wednesday, the central government took steps to accelerate the production of vaccines so that the eligible beneficiaries can be vaccinated at the earliest. Hence, under Atmanirbhar Bharat 3.0 Mission 'Covid Suraksha', three public enterprises are being supported to boost vaccine production. These enterprises include Mumbai's Haffkine Biopharmaceutical Corporation Limited, Hyderabad's Indian Immunologicals Limited and UP's Bharat Immunologicals & Biologicals Limited.
