The first case of bird flu identified in Navi Mumbai; officials direct for precautionary culling

Navi Mumbai has joined the list of regions in the country, contaminated by the infection of bird flu in Maharashtra. On January 25, 10 bird samples were sent from Mahape and Ghansoli to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune. These included 6 poultry samples, two from Mahape and four from Ghansoli, all of which have tested positive for the infection of bird flu. Precautionary culling has begun, leading to the execution of 95 birds in Ghansoli and 192 in Mahape, while further culling directives have been authenticated for all regions within 1 km- radius of infected places.
