On Monday, President Ram Nath Kovind attended a ceremonial parade organised at INS Hansa naval base in Goa. As per reports, the head of the state presented President's Colour to the Indian Naval Aviation at this event. Notably, he was also given the guard of honour by the Indian Navy during the function. Amongst a list of other dignitaries, the event was marked by the esteemed presence of Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh, reportedly.
Conferred in recognition of exceptional service to the nation
As per reports, the Governor and the Chief Minister of the coastal state were also present at INS Hansa for this stately occasion. Located nearly 40 km from Panaji, INS Hansa is the nation's biggest naval airbase. Commissioned in 1961, this centre completed 6 decades of its journey on 5th September this year.
Reportedly, President's Colour is the highest honour to be conferred upon a military unit, for their extraordinary service to the nation. It has a 36 inch by 48-inch white ensign with the national flag in the canton. Further, it contains the state emblem, ornamented with gold in the centre and an elephant is placed opposite to the national flag, as a symbol of strength. It is noteworthy that the navy was the first among the Indian Armed Forces to receive this prestigious honour.
Indian Naval Aviation, a key component of the nation's defence ecosystem
As per a representative of the organisation, the Indian Naval Aviation was formed with the entry of the first Sealand aircraft on January 13, 1951. Additionally, INS Garuda, the first Naval Air Station was commissioned on May 11, 1953. Almost 70 years after its inception, Indian Naval Aviation today comprises nine air stations and three air enclaves, reportedly. These are located along the coastline of mainland country and in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
With massive technological transformations, INA has evolved as a modern and advanced component of the nation's defence ecosystem. As per reports, the spokesman informed that the wing has 250 aircraft now and this fleet consists of Carrier-borne fighters, maritime reconnaissance aircraft, helicopters and remotely piloted aircraft.
