Despite leading a pretty regular life- completing a college degree, getting married and working a 9-5 job, Sundari Venkatraman's life took an interesting turn at the age of 53. Inspired by the likes of Mark Twain, Venkatraman debuted as an author in her later years. Setting aside the orthodox norms of age-appropriate behaviour, Venkatraman self-published her first romantic novel- The Malhotra Bride, on Kindle Direct Publishing platform.

Like most girls, Sundari Venkatraman grew up on a steady diet of fairytales and Mills and Boon. Her love for books soon turned into a love for writing. In 2000, at the age of 40, Venkatraman finished the first draft of her first novel in merely 35 days. Although she failed to secure publishers for her novel, encouraged by her husband, she kept on writing.

In the meantime, she landed a job as a copywriter and later went on to work as a content editor. Yet, she never stopped following her heart and kept on writing stories which she published as a mini-series on her blog.

A few years later, she came to know about Kindle Direct Publishing through which she launched her book in the public domain, for the first time. A bevy of enthusiastic and positive responses followed and since then, she has never looked back. Now, she is an acclaimed author in India and abroad, with 53 published titles to her credit. Having sold more than a million copies around the globe, her books consistently feature in Amazon's Top 100 Bestseller Lists.

<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:block" data-ad-client="ca-pub-1928181993792414" data-ad-slot="7448307427" data-ad-format="auto" data-full-width-responsive="true"></ins>

Venkatraman forayed into the hot romance genre unafraid of the judgemental gaze of society. Untrained in the art of writing, she takes pride in her work and believes that self-publishing gave wings to her imagination which has resulted in her creative spree. From editing a school magazine to becoming a bestselling author, Venkatraman's story is an example of patience and dedication.

An inspiration for aspiring writers

Even after writing so many romance novels, Venkatraman has the ability to give each character a distinct personality. During a Goodreads question and answer session, she revealed that drawing inspiration from people around her has helped her in coming up with varied characters.

While writing happened to her out of the blue, Venkatraman wishes to keep this journey going. Lately, she has diversified her writing by entering the world of mythology. Books have the power to transport people to a world of wonder and Venkatraman writes with the hope that her books, too, can transport her readers to such wonderful places.
