Actors Abhay Deol and Mithila Palkar have come together for an Indian original Netflix film ‘Chopsticks’. While, Abhay was last seen in Zero, Mithila Palkar was seen in ‘Karwaan’ her debut movie. ‘Chopsticks’ will be released in May this year and going by its cast, we are expecting a lot from it.
The original has been directed by Sachin Yardi. The movie stars Abhay and Mithila as its main leads with Vijay Raaz and Benafasha Soonawala in supporting roles. Chopsticks’s main plot is about an under-confident but talented girl, bypassed at every stage of her life, who seeks out an enigmatic con to help recover her stolen car from a goat-loving, crazy Mumbai gangster and while in the process, she finds her shinning confidence.
Netflix quietly revealed the release date for Chopsticks as a part of its announcement of all the upcoming titles on its platform in May. It also included the first-look of the film. Netflix is calling Chopsticks as its “first Indian original film” because it has been made from the ground level by the streaming service itself, unlike past efforts which were acquired rather than made by Netflix such as Brij Mohan Amar Rahe, Lust Stories, Soni etc.
The first time ‘Chopsticks’ was announced as an initiative by Netflix, it was at a showcase event in Singapore in November last year, alongside some of the others. Netflix has been increasing the number of its Indian films slated for 2019. While, it released 6 films and documentaries in 2018, It has slated 10 new movies for this year produced by Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar as announced earlier this April. Along with Anushka Sharma’s three remaining from the November announcement: Bulbul, Upstarts, and Cobalt Blue.
The Netflix Original’s title page lists the running time for Chopsticks as an hour and 40 minutes long movie. It will be released on May 31. It will be interesting to see Abhay Deol’s comeback with a Netflix movie and his pairing alongside Mithila Palkar.
