Aishwarya Rai Bachchan career graph has always been up, from bagging a Miss World crown in her teens to getting the tulips of Netherland named after her. Aishwarya has done it all and she doesn’t seem to stop. The actress was last seen in Fanney Khan as Baby Singh last year. News is, she is all geared up to come back to the big screen with Mani Ratnam’s next.
Incidentally, Aishwarya made her acting debut in 1997 with dual role in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil political drama film ‘Iruvar’. She went on to work with him in Raavan and Guru. The recent Maniratnam project she has given a nod to, is based on the historical Tamil novel, Ponniyin Selvan.
The story is supposedly placed in the 10th century before Raja Raja Chola became a king. Aishwarya will be seen as Nandini, the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, who served as the chancellor and treasurer of the Chola kingdom. Aishwarya portrays a woman who is power hungry and manipulates her husband to plan the downfall of the Chola empire because she was wronged by them.
Now that Mani Ratnam’s favourite actor Aishwarya is on board, the director has shifted the multi-lingual into a high gear and hopes to take the movie on floors by the year-end.
Though, Mani Ratnam and his team are yet to officially announce the movie Ponniyin Selvan, trade analyst Girish Johar confirmed it with his tweet
Ponniyin Selvan is supposedly a project that is very close to Mani Ratnam’s heart, as he has apparently been planning the movie for almost 10 years. Its is speculated that the cast will include Jayam Ravi, Vikram, Amitabh Bachchan, Amala Paul and Mohan Babu in pivotal roles but nothing has been confirmed.
Aishwarya was seen portraying the negative role in Khakee way back in 2005. It will be very interesting to see how Mani Ratnam is able to extract that negative performance again by Aishwarya.
