The film is also her debut production venture
Deepika Padukone shared her first look on Monday from the upcoming movie ‘Chhapaak’. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the movie is based on the life of acid attack survivor and activist Laxmi Agarwal. ‘Chhapaak’ will also be Deepika’s debut production venture with Meghna Gulzar.
“A character that will stay with me forever...#Malti Shoot begins today! Releasing-10th January, 2020,” Deepika posted on her social media accounts alongside a picture releasing her first look from the film as an acid attack survivor named Malti.
The film is a biopic based on Laxmi, who was attacked by an assailant at a bus stop in Delhi on being rebuked for his advances. Laxmi was only 15 years old when she was attacked back in 2005. The film talks about her inspiring journey of courage and how she turned her tragedy into a cause behind the Stop Sale Acid campaign.
The social media was set abuzz within a matter of minutes as soon as they saw Deepika’s post revealing her look from the film. Bollywood celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal and Rajkumar Rao to name a few posted on Twitter with positive comments and praised Deepika and Meghna for bringing up such an inspiring story. Arjun Kapoor also praised them for the accurate visual portrayal of the character.
The film which is set to release in January 2020, also stars Vikrant Massey apart from Deepika playing the lead role.
