After winning on the international show World of Dance, the rags to riches story of the dance group Kings United India has inspired a film. ‘The Kings’ became World Champions by bagging the NBC’s much coveted trophy, as the judges of the show Jennifer Lopez, Ne- Yo and Derek Hough gave them a perfect score of 100 for their cinematic, “Baahubali” style performance.
The crew that started from the streets of Mumbai has been setting the stage on fire with their performances. Kings United is a dance group that started in the year 2008 and now has reached the international stage representing India.
Shailendra Singh has acquired rights to their story and said he found it to be a “glocal” narrative. He said “The story of Kings United is a true account of 22 young strugglers from the slums of Nala Sopara, uniting through dance to take on the world. They dedicated 12 years to reaching the top and became champions of the world. It’s an inspiration to anyone who has ever seen a dream.”
According to a source, they are looking out for a global director, planning a release in 2020. It has also been revealed that they are planning to have actual team members to be a part of the film. Surush Mukund who is the choreographer in the group is excited and happy for the same. He said “Our journey has been full of trials and tribulations, victory and glory. But we had a dream, and the only thing we knew to do, was to keep chasing that dream. We believe that Shailendra Singh truly understands our story and can translate it in to film. We are very excited to embark upon this new journey with him.”
The crew specializes in ‘Bolly hip-hop’ which is the hip- hop dance techniques fused with Bollywood dancing. Kings United is the first Indian dance group to win an international US dance reality show. We look forward to their journey ahead!
