Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s biopic has finally been released after getting delayed for a month. The movie whose release was postponed, owing to elections and the model code of conduct, was released soon after the seven phase elections were done with.
The movie which has been directed by Omung Kumar and stars Vivek Oberoi in the role of PM Modi. Though, the film had a “lukewarm” opening and made Rs 2.88 crores on its first day. After the landslide victory of Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, footfall in theatres is expected to increase.
The film traces the journey of PM Modi right from the days when he used to sell tea to his days spent rallying for the country and with the countrymen. It ends with him taking an oath as the Prime Minister of India after winning the elections of 2014.
Several opposition parties were against the release of the film around the polling period as they believed it would influence the voters and give BJP an unfair advantage in the results. The film was initially slated for an April 5 release but was postponed due to Lok Sabha Elections 2019. However the Election Commission further pushed it to release to May 24.
In an interview Producer Sandip Singh said “We are just here to tell the story of a man who has inspired us. He comes from nowhere- he was a chaiwala and he became the prime minister of a nation with a population of 125 crores. He is one of the biggest brands in the world. Modi’s story is the reason why we are making this film.”
Apart from Vivek Oberoi, the film also features Manoj Joshi as Amit Shah, Rajendra Gupta as Modi’s father, Zarina Wahab as Modi’s mother and Barkha Bisht Sengupta as Modi’s wife. The film reached crores on its first day, let’s see how much progress will it make in within the coming week.
