Produced by Boney Kapoor, the 1987 classic fiction thriller ‘Mr. India’ is an iconic film in the cinematic history of Bollywood. The film starred Anil Kapoor and the ‘Chandni’ of Bollywood Sridevi. Recently, on the film‘s 32nd anniversary, Boney Kapoor confirmed that the legendary movie would soon get a reboot.
The producer has set his focus on rebooting Mr. India as a contemporary franchise.
Boney was overwhelmed when he said “Mr. India was ahead of its time. The film is a masterpiece and it will remain a cult movie till eternity.” He further adds "The idea is to create a reboot first, and then, make a franchise of it. It needs to be made more contemporary. We have a basic structure in mind. We haven't decided on a timeline yet, but intend to make it soon."
With a stellar cast including Amrish Puri, Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, Ashok Kumar, Satish Kaushik and a host of child actors, the sci-fi entertainer had a common man who used an invisibility bracelet to fight evil in the society. It had all the elements of a perfect bollywood drama- a hero, a heroine, a villian, humour, action and great music.
It was directed by Shekhar Kapur and was known for its classic dialogues and songs including “Kaate nahi katte” & “Hawa Hawaii”, great performance by all the actors and Amrish Puri’s popular catchphrase “Mogambo khush hua”.
According to Boney, that one person whose contribution cannot be forgotten is action and stunts director Veeru Devgan, who passed away earlier last week. Boney says "Veeru was one of the main pillars of the film, besides the director, writer and music director. He was so innovative and enthusiastic. It was thanks to Veeru that we could achieve so much in camera... Can you believe all the special effects were in camera?"
A lot of the film's initial cast is not with us anymore, but Boney assured that some people from the original movie will surely be associated with the reboot. The film was the highest earner of the year, hence the expectations for its version 2.0 will be quite high. We can’t wait to see the reboot of the Bollywood classic.
