The shooting for the film “Gumnaami” which is based on the life of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose has begun in West Bengal’s Asansol. The film has Prosenjit Chatterjee in the titular role and is based on the case of a man “Gumnaami Baba” who was believed to be Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The movie is being directed by National award filmmaker Srijit Mukherji and produced by SVF Films. The ‘Vinci Da’ director recently shared pictures from the mahurat of ‘Gumnaami’. He said “I’m very honoured to be able to make a film which will bring out a story- not explored before. It’s in a way my tribute to Netaji on his 122nd birthday.”

The poster of the film revealed a man facing a wall, plastered with news clippings about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s disappearance and carries the tagline ‘The Greatest Story Never Told’. There were many rumours and conspiracy theories on Netaji’s return to India after his supposed death in Taihoku plane crash. Srijit’s upcoming film’s plot is one of those rumours which apparently set the story of the film. The film draws inspiration from Anuj Dhar and Chandrachur Ghosh’s bestselling book Conundrum, Subhash Bose’s Life After Death.

The film faced many controversies when Netaji’s grand nephew Chandra Kumar Bose said that it would be a “Criminal Offence” to term “Gumnami Baba” as Netaji in disguise without any documentary or photographic evidence. Earlier the director also mentioned that Bollywood singer-turned-politician Babul Supriyo would also play an important role in the film. “My bestest of wishes to the entire team of #Gumnami that starts today under the Captain’s Baton of @srijitpeaketh. Particularly elated because the Mahurat shot will be shot at the Andal Airport in my Constituency Asansol..Cheerzz.” Supriyo tweeted.

The film has already created a lot of suspense and is scheduled to hit the screens in January 2020.
