As per reports released by Ookla, the speedtest company, it was revealed that Airtel topped the charts when it came to solely internet speeds. In Q3 and Q4 of 2018, Airtel remained at the top while overall 4G availability was topped by Jio 4G. Over the past few years, 4G coverage in India has improved by many folds and with data plans becoming much cheaper, the penetration is only going to increase.
According to the report, with 98.8% 4G availability across the country, Reliance Jio ranked first. The survey was carried out by comparing the general availability of carriers across 15 of the largest cities in the country.
These included Delhi, Visakhapatnam, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and a few other major cities with the largest number of 4G users. Jio was followed by Airtel at 90.0%, Vodafone at 84.6% and Idea with 82.8%.
Though Jio was most widely available, Airtel came in first as the fastest 4G service provider. For the results, Ookla used their speed score methodology which is a combined measure of download and upload speeds, keeping in mind differences in performance.
Airtel had the fastest 4G LTE speed in India with a speed of 11.23 Mbps. It was followed by Vodafone as the second with a 9.13 Mbps speed and Jio at the third position.
The ‘General Availability’ and ‘4G Availability’ was measured using the coverage data from over 25,00,00,000 samples on almost 595,000 enabled devices during Q3-Q4 2018.
These results are a step in the right direction and point towards a more progressive and developmental India. The advent of 4G in so many places with high-speed connections is a boon to the country and acts as a stepping stone for future connectivity networks.
