Apple working on two OLED and an LCD iPhone for 2019 lineup

Just this past week, renders for the upcoming Apple iPhones were leaked by OnLeaks and Digit India featuring a rather weird camera placement on the rear. Now, a new report by Wall Street Journal corroborates the renders and confirms that the Cupertino giant is, in fact, working on two OLED iPhone models- presumably iPhone XI and XI Max and one LCD iPhone- successor to the iPhone XR, for their 2019 lineup due in September.

The report also mentions that the top-end variant of the iPhone (iPhone XI Max) will feature a triple camera setup while the iPhone XR (2019) will be upgraded from single camera setup to a dual camera setup on the back. The new cameras that come along with the 2019 iPhones are expected to be significantly upgraded over the previous generation of Apple iPhone.

Apple will also upgrade the iPhone XR with dual cameras and going further into 2020 may even replace the LCD display with an OLED one, making the future lineup to an all OLED iPhone series.

WSJ report also indicates that certain major features of the upcoming iPhone are now set in stone and cannot be altered easily. This also means that the renders we saw earlier this week which were claimed to be in Engineering Validation Test (EVT) stage are our closest look at the actual phones.

Further, we expect Apple to retain the notch design on the front with an upgraded Face ID unlock. As we mentioned in our earlier report, the renders indicate a very different iPhone as the camera module placement looks out of symmetry and very un-Apple like.

We will have more information as the 2019 iPhone models go into production.
