Recently, in an event in Paris, Chinese smartphone maker Huawei launched their latest flagship lineup which consists of two phones. Since the announcement on Tuesday, the P30 and P30 Pro have gained a lot of traction and is touted to rival the latest Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus in more than one way.

The phones are much awaited smartphones by the company in the Indian community and the “Notify Me” pages for the phone went live on Amazon India even before the event ended. This suggests an imminent launch of the smartphone in the country.

Since last year, Huawei has been showing keen interest in the Indian market and have confirmed that they will also bring the Huawei Mate X to the country, which is their premium foldable smartphone.

As for the P30 and P30 Pro, they are both camera centric phones with the P30 Pro stealing the spotlight owing to its periscope camera and 5x optical zoom. Apart from that, it even has a super ultrawide lens that seems to be the norm these days. The recent development on the Amazon India page has our hopes up and though there is no word on the exact launch date, we can expect it to come out some time in April.

P30 and P30 Pro Specifications

Both the phones are top of the line flagship smartphones and one look at the display will tell you no different. They both come with similar waterdrop style notches and the P30 Pro comes with a 6.47-inch OLED display, while the P30 has a slightly smaller 6.1-inch OLED display. In both phones, the screen resolution remains the same at 2340x1080 pixels. To make the phones future proof Huawei has opted for the in-display fingerprint scanner, which is unlike the ultrasonic reader in the Galaxy S10.

Under the hood, the P30 and the P30 Pro are almost identical to one another. They both pack the latest Kirin 980 chipset that is based on a 7nm processor and make use of enhanced AI capabilities. The chipset is paired with a Mali-G76 GPU, to enhance 3D and gaming performance on the phones. Where the phones differ is in terms of RAM capacity. The regular P30 comes with only 6GB of onboard RAM, while the higher end P30 Pro comes with 8GB RAM to help with multitasking and day to day processes.

The P30 flagships are geared towards camera centric users and they pack in a punch in this department. The Huawei P30 Pro makes use of a Leica quad-camera setup on the back that includes a 40-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.6 aperture, a 20-megapixel f/2.2 ultra wide-angle camera, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with a Periscope lens that can offer 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and up to 50x digital zoom, and a ToF (Time of Flight) camera for depth mapping and 3D sensing.

The regular P30 on the other hand gets a triple rear camera set-up which consists of a 40-megapixel, f/1.8 wide-angle camera, a 16-megapixel f/2.2 ultra wide-angle camera and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Where the P30 misses out is the time of flight camera, which it makes up for using the telephoto lens and AI camera capabilities.

The P30 Pro has a bigger battery since it is the dimensionally larger of the two. It packs in a 4,200mAH battery while the P30 packs a smaller 3,650mAH battery. Both the phones will run on Android 9.0 based EMUI 9.0, which brings to the table some unique features.

As for availability and pricing, there is no confirmation on the release date of the phones in India. Since the ‘Notify Me’ page on Amazon India has been made accessible, it indicates that the phones could launch sooner than you think. Going by the European prices of the phones, by no means will these be a cheap smartphones.

The regular Huawei P30 has been priced at EUR 799 (approx ₹62,200) and it comes in a single 6GB of RAM+128GB internal storage variant. The Huawei P30 Pro will start at EUR 999 (approx ₹77,800) for the 8GB/128GB variant. The 8GB/256GB and 8GB/512GB storage models cost EUR 1,099 (approx ₹85,600) and EUR 1,249 (approx ₹97,300), respectively.
