Lenovo Z5 Pro is the world’s first smartphone to be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset that was announced earlier this month. It is also the world’s first phone to pack in a whopping 12GB of RAM. If that wasn’t enough as it is, the Lenovo Z5 Pro also features a slide-out camera design.
With the launch of the Z5 Pro, Lenovo has pipped every other major OEM to use the Snapdragon 855 chipset first. This is a major coup for the company, and with the aggressive pricing, it could just be the runaway hit that Lenovo might be looking for.
Apart from this, Lenovo also launched the Z5s in the mid-range featuring the new Snapdragon 710 chipset. Despite its mid-range target, the Snapdragon 710 is a pretty powerful chipset. The Lenovo Z5s is also priced very aggressively, just like the Z5 Pro.
The Lenovo Z5 Pro is filled to the brim with high-end specifications. It features a 6.39-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display and a notchless design while still offering a bezel-less experience. Lenovo has instead opted for a slide-out camera design that we’ve seen on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3.
Powering the Z5 Pro is the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 855 with eight cores in a tri-cluster setup. It is paired with 6GB, 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. In terms of optics, the Z5 Pro packs a 16MP primary camera and a 24MP secondary camera on the back. On the front, in the slider, it has a 16MP camera along with an 8MP Infrared camera for Face Unlock.
Other features of the Lenovo Z5 Pro include an in-display fingerprint sensor, dual 4G VoLTE, dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and a USB Type-C port. It packs in a 3350mAh battery and includes support for fast charging.
The Lenovo Z5 Pro is priced starting at CNY 2,698 for 6GB + 128GB, CNY 2,998 for 8GB + 128GB and goes up to CNY 4,398 for the 12GB + 512GB model. It will be available in China from January 24th.
Coming to the mid-range, Lenovo Z5s features slightly more modest specifications but an extremely aggressive price. It has a 6.39-inch LTPS LCD display with a waterdrop notch, similar to what we’ve seen on Oppo phones and the OnePlus 6T.
Powering the Lenovo Z5s is the octa-core Snapdragon 710 chipset that was announced earlier this year. This is paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, as is standard for phones in this range.
In terms of imaging, you get a triple camera setup on the back with a 16MP primary camera, PDAF, 8MP telephoto lens and a 5MP snapper for depth sensing. On the front, it has a 16MP camera.
Other features of the Lenovo Z5s include a traditional fingerprint sensor, dual 4G VoLTE, dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC. It also has a USB Type-C port and is backed by a 3300mAh battery with fast charging support.
The Lenovo Z5s is priced at CNY 1,398 for 4GB + 64GB, CNY 1,598 for 6GB + 64GB and CNY 1,898 for 6GB + 128GB. It will go on sale from December 24th in China.
