Micromax Informatics on Friday launched its budget #iOne smartphone with notch display in India for Rs 4,999. You might remember Micromax as the company that first came up with the idea of cheap phones at a reasonable price. In the past, their phones have made a few waves, but nothing extraordinary. Now, the company seems to have emerged from the dust and they are aiming to make a comeback. With their new phone, the company is looking to compete with Realme and Redmi smartphones that fit in the same budget.
Targeted towards new-age consumers, the device comes with 19:9 screen and a 5MP+5MP dual rear camera set up with over nine shooting modes. This is one of the few phones that the company has launched with a notch display.
"Our newest #iOne Notch Display hosts a 19:9 screen that ensures more content is displayed without the edges being cut," Sunil Joon, Head Strategy, Micromax Informatics Ltd, said in a statement. The Micromax #iOne is the first UNISOC SC9863 octacore chipset-powered smartphone in India.
As of now, there is no real confirmation on what kind of processing power the chipset contains. The phone sports a 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which comes with support for a128GB memory card. Though the specifications of the phone are nothing to write home about, they will manage to attract buyers considering the price range.
What’s neat is that the smartphone runs Android Pie operating system (OS), which is a great addition. The battery on the phone is a 2,200mAH battery, which should perform alright considering the specifications of the phone.
As for the cameras, there is a dual camera setup with a 5-megapixel sensor and a secondary 5 megapixel sensor for depth effect and portrait mode shots. Up front, the camera is housed within the notch up front.
The phone comes as a reasonable performer when compared to other smartphones in the similar budget. The phone could change the company’s standing in the market today and could spring them back into the game.
