Netflix, one of the world’s largest online streaming applications, has just announced a new weekly plan for users on the mobile platform. The move comes after the growing popularity of the platform in India and also, the growing number of smartphone users in the country. Netflix’s weekly service is an India exclusive plan, and is the cheapest option ever to use the streaming service. For just ₹65 a week, users can become part of the Netflix family.

The mobile-only plan allows users to watch content on just one smartphone or tablet screen at a time, according to the information given by the company last week. The new plans appearing on Netflix India’s website list the weekly mobile-only plan for ₹65, a basic plan for ₹125, a standard plan (two screens allowed) for ₹165, and ultra plan for a ₹200 which lets you view content on four screens in 4K quality.

However, it must be noted that the mobile-only plan does not support shows in HD or 4K quality. This can be somewhat of a dealbreaker for many potential users as smartphones these days have full HD displays, which make for more immersive content viewing experience.

Despite bringing what seems to be the most affordable plans, Netflix still remains the most expensive over-the-top (OTT) content streaming platform in India. Other similar players like Amazon Prime Video and Hotstar Premium charge ₹199 each per month with added benefits for all users, making them better, more viable choices.

Since India is the world’s second-largest smartphone market with cheapest data rates, the country has become a major focus point for international content and music streaming platforms. Owing to this, Spotify was recently launched in the country and one of its biggest competitor, Apple Music, slashed down its prices to attract more users.
