Nokia adds three new stock Android smartphones to its arsenal

HMD Global led Nokia has announced three new budget phones, the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 (3GB) and the Nokia 5.1 in India. While the Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 2.1 are new devices, the Nokia 3.1 was previously launched with 2GB RAM + 16GB storage option and now, the smartphone maker has launched a 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant of the phone.

The Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 are the successors of last year's Nokia 2, Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 respectively. While the Nokia 2.1 is an Android Go device, the Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 are Android One devices. Android Oreo (Go Edition) is a toned down version of Android that has been designed for low-end devices such as the Nokia 2.1. On the other hand, the Android One program from Google provides a pure Android experience, quick software and security updates.

The Nokia 2.1 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) and the company has said that it will receive an update to Android 9.0 Pie. The phone features a 5.5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:9. It also comes with an anti-fingerprint coating.

In terms of performance, the device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC coupled with Adreno 308 GPU. In terms of memory, it has been launched with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card.

Coming to the camera department, the Nokia 2.1 features an 8MP primary camera with an LED flash and a 5MP selfie camera.

The Nokia 2.1 is powered by a 4,100mAh battery, which can easily provide more than 1 day of battery life as it is running on Android Oreo (Go Edition) and comes with a power efficient SoC. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, 3,5mm audio jack, GPS and a micro USB port.

As mentioned earlier, the Nokia 3.1 is part of Google's Android One program and runs on Android 8.0 Oreo. Google while announcing Android Pie had mentioned that all smartphones under the Android One initiative will get updated to Android 9.0 Pie by the end of this fall. Nokia 3.1 features a 5.2-inch HD+ 2.5D curved glass display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display is further reinforced with a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass.

In terms of performance, the device is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6750N SoC coupled with Mali T860 GPU. While the variant with 2GB of RAM is already available, Nokia has launched the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant on Friday.

Coming to the camera department, the Nokia 3.1 features a 13MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture and an LED flash. On the front, the device sports an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and an 84.6-degree wide-angle lens.

The Nokia 3.1 is powered by a 2,990mAh battery and connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, GPS and a micro USB port.

The Nokia 5.1 is a premium offering amongst the three devices launched by the Finnish company. It runs on Android 8.0 Oreo and features a 5.5-inch full HD+ 2.5D curved glass display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

In terms of performance, the Nokia 5.1 is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P18 SoC coupled with Mali-T860MP2 GPU. In terms of memory, the device has been launched in two variants - 2GB RAM + 16GB internal storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage.

Coming to the camera department, the Nokia 5.1 features a 16MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and an LED flash. On the front, the device sports an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and an 84-degree wide-angle lens.

The Nokia 5.1 is powered by a 3,000mAh battery and connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio, GPS and a micro USB port.

Pricing and availability

The Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 (3GB) and Nokia 5.1 are priced at ₹6,999, ₹11,999 and ₹14,499 respectively. All the three devices will go on sale from August 12 and will be available in retail stores and Paytm mall.
