The Nokia 8.1, the successor to the popular Nokia 7 Plus was launched globally in the market about a week back. On Monday, HMD Global hosted an event bringing the phone to the Indian market at a price of Rs 26,999 for the variant with 4GB of RAM.
During the launch event, it was revealed by Ajey Mehta, VP, HMD Global India, that a 6GB RAM with 128GB storage variant will also go on sale sometime in January 2019. For now, there's the 4GB/64GB variant available for sale from December 21.
Coming to the specifications of the Nokia 8.1, it comes loaded with a Snapdragon 710 processor and 4GB/6GB of RAM. The phone is a part of Google's Android One programme from Google and runs Android 9.0 right out-of-the-box. Apart from that, it has a rather large notch up top and a small chin which houses the company logo. The phone also has a decent 3,500mAh battery in order to keep the phone up for long periods of time.
The cameras in the phone should do a good job as they use Carl Zeiss lenses at the back, just like the Nokia 7 Plus. The primary sensor is a 12-megapixel sensor and the second one comes in at 13-megapixels. The camera supports OIS and EIS along with 4K video recording capabilities. At the front of the phone, in the notch, there is the front camera which is a 20-megapixel sensor.
Nokia 8.1 with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage will be available from ₹26,999 on December 21. There is no word on the pricing of the 6GB RAM/128GB internal storage variant as of now, though it should hit markets in January 2019. The phone will be on sale on the Nokia website, Amazon.in and offline stores.
