It’s finally here! On a rather cloudy day in Brooklyn, New York, OnePlus took wraps off their new flagship smartphone the OnePlus 6T. The phone has been in headlines from quite some time and now, the company officials have gone on record to the lesser known details about the 6T.
OnePlus 6T serves as an update to the last year’s OnePlus 5T and a minuscule upgrade to the OnePlus 6 which was launched earlier this year. With 6T, OnePlus brings in a couple of new additions to the already popular smartphone. The OnePlus 6T will also be available in the United States as a result of the company’s partnership with T-Mobile. Interestingly, OnePlus 6T is also the first smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor on the US soil.
Without much ado, let’s take a deep dive into the on-paper specifications of the OnePlus 6T.
Starting with the build, OnePlus 6T has a metal and glass construction similar to its predecessor. However, the 6T is on the heftier side and weighs a little more than the OnePlus 6. The OnePlus 6T will be available in Mirror Black and Midnight Black color options on launch.
The 6T measures 157.5 x 74.8 x 8.2mm and weighs around 185 g which is around 8 g more than the OnePlus 6. Addition of new components and a bigger battery are credited to this increase in weight and depth.
OnePlus 6T features a full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels), 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED display which is up from 6.28-inch on the OnePlus 6. The company was able to achieve this by further tweaking the notch which has been revamped and now resembles a waterdrop. This allows the OnePlus 6T to have a 19.5:9 aspect ratio with an 86% screen-to-body ratio. The display also supports sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamut.
The 6T is also one of the very first smartphones to ship with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6. While the OnePlus 6T features improved dust and water resistance, although the company advised users not to “take it for a swim”.
With the OnePlus 6T, the company has also done away with a physical fingerprint sensor. There’s a fingerprint sensor embedded into the display itself which uses light through the display to read a user’s fingerprint.
Powering the OnePlus 6T is Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 845 chipset with an octa-core CPU, four Kryo 385 Gold cores clocked at 2.8GHz and the other four Kryo 385 Silver cores clocked at 1.7GHz.
There’s also an AI engine aboard 6T which assists in camera, UI among other such features. For smooth graphics performance, the SoC works in tandem with Adreno 630 and is backed by 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage options.
OnePlus 6T sports a primary 16-megapixel camera with a Sony IMX519 sensor and a secondary 20-megapixel snapper with Sony IMX376K sensor. On the front, there’s a 16-megapixel selfie camera as well, housed in the waterdrop notch.
OnePlus has added a slew of new camera features to the 6T such as AI scene detection, night mode (also coming to OnePlus 6 by the end of this week) and studio lighting among others.
The primary camera on the 6T supports both optical and electronic image stabilization. It can shoot 4K at 60fps and full HD super slow motion videos at 240fps.
The OnePlus 6T has received a bump in the battery department and the capacity is now increased to 3,700mAh with support for fast charging. In addition to this, the OnePlus 6T does not come with a 3.5mm headphone jack anymore but OnePlus provides Type-C to 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter in-the-box.
The base variant of the OnePlus 6T has 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage, retailing for ₹37,999 in India. The 8GB RAM variant with 128GB storage will go on sale for ₹41,999 while customers will have to shell out ₹45,999 for the high-end variant with 256GB of storage.
Additionally, OnePlus also announced a new OnePlus Explorer Backpack which will go on sale via an invite system and the fifth-anniversary edition of the Bullets Wireless which looks stunning in red.
