POCO F2 spotted in benchmarks, chipset and RAM revealed

The POCO F1 was launched in August this year, but it seems as if Xiaomi’s sub-brand POCO is already working on a successor. In a new leak, the POCO F2 has been revealed in benchmarks on popular benchmarking website Geekbench. The leak reveals details like the chipset and RAM being used in the POCO F2.

According to the leaked benchmark listing, the device is named “Xiaomi POCO F2”. If true, it will succeed the POCO F1. However, the listing reveals that the alleged POCO F2 is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, paired with 6GB RAM. The device is shown as scoring 2321 in the single-core test and 7564 in the multi-core test.

This is the same chipset that also powers the POCO F1, but given that the POCO smartphones are priced very aggressively, Xiaomi could indeed choose to use the Snapdragon 845 chipset once again. Apart from that, the time gap between the POCO F1 and POCO F2 is pretty small, so that might also justify the use of this chipset. It is worth noting that Qualcomm has already unveiled the Snapdragon 855 chipset earlier this month. If the POCO F2 does not use it, the POCO F3 will most definitely be powered by it.

The POCO F1 has been a runaway hit for Xiaomi’s new sub-brand, especially in markets like India. With the POCO sub-brand, Xiaomi seems to be trying to mimic OnePlus, which had also started off with the OnePlus One with high-end specs offered at mid-range prices.

While Xiaomi’s offerings are generally priced very competitively, the company has found it difficult to crack the premium/flagship segment. With the POCO sub-brand, Xiaomi hopes to change its fortunes in this segment. While the POCO F1’s success should encourage the company, the company’s future releases will be critical.
