Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 mobile platform announced with support for triple cameras

Qualcomm has announced its latest mid-range chipset in the 600-tier, the Snapdragon 675 mobile platform at its 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong. The Snapdragon 675 mobile platform is aimed at the mid-range smartphone market and offers a new architecture and several performance improvements over the Snapdragon 670 SoC.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 features

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 is an upgrade of the Snapdragon 670 that was announced earlier this year and Qualcomm claims that it offers 20% overall improved performance over the earlier versions.

The Snapdragon 675 is built on an 11nm fabrication process and is the first chipset in the 600 series to feature the next generation Kyro 460 CPU. It consists of two Cortex A76 performance cores and six efficiency cores based on Cortex A55. In addition to this, the Snapdragon 675 chipset features the Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP, Qualcomm Adreno 612 GPU and Qualcomm AI Engine.

In terms of gaming, the Snapdragon 675 chipset is equipped with the Adreno 612 GPU that supports OpenGL ES 3.2, Open CL 2.0, Vulkan, and DirectX 12. Qualcomm has also revealed that various game engines such as Unity, Unreal, Messiah and NeoX have been optimized to run on its chipset. The company has claimed that with these optimizations, the new platform should result in 90% fewer janks.

Like most chipsets these days, the Snapdragon 675 also features improved AI features, offering up to 50% overall improvements in AI applications. This includes AI use cases for the camera (scene and object detection, image style transfer, portrait relighting), security (face unlock, payment security), voice and translation.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 is currently available for OEMs and is expected to be used in mid-range devices in Q1 2019. Additionally, at the Qualcomm 4G/5G Summit, Manu Kumar Jain - VP, Xiaomi & MD, Xiaomi India revealed that Xiaomi will be launching a smartphone powered by Snapdragon 675 soon.
