Realme U1 selfie smartphone to launch as Amazon India exclusive

Realme, OPPO’s spin-off brand, has been making waves in the sub ₹15,000 smartphone price bracket. Initially, Xiaomi held the crown for the smartphone king in this price bracket. With Realme, the game has changed and now, a new Amazon-exclusive phone is being launched by the company. Realme U1 is a phone designed to cater to the selfie lovers and the casual mobile photographers.

Realme’s U lineup will consist of high camera powered phones. The U1 has emerged recently and it was confirmed by the company that it will be exclusively available on Amazon India.

The company claims that it will be the most powerful selfie camera with 25MP and also boasts a quite handy rear camera set up as well. In the spec sheet, it was listed that the phone will be powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset, making it the first smartphone to make use of the processor. The design language of the smartphone suggests a modern looking phone with a waterdrop notch and a unique back design.

Previously, Realme’s phones, the Realme 1, Realme 2 and Realme 2 Pro and the Realme C1 have been quite a hit with the masses. With the U1, they aim to expand their market to camera specific users. Teasers suggest that the front camera features a six element lens to improve sharpness and clarity of images. Added camera functionality includes AI enhancements and better image processing engine among other technologies.

According to research, the company sold over a million units in just a mere 5 months and is also the world’s fourth-largest online brand. In the past six months, the company claims to have sold over 3 million units of smartphones.

There is no word on the pricing of the phone yet, though it is known that it will launch on November 28. It will pose as a direct competitor to Xiaomi’s budget smartphones which are also faring well in the market.
