Samsung Galaxy S10 5G variant to feature six cameras

Samsung could be gearing up to launch up to four models of the Galaxy S10 if new reports are to be believed. In addition to the regular Galaxy S10 models, Samsung could also launch a special edition Galaxy S10 5G variant. Moreover, this special edition Galaxy S10 might have a lot more exciting new features up its sleeves than just 5G.

According to a new report in the WSJ, Samsung is being said to launch the Galaxy S10 Special Edition to celebrate the tenth anniversary of its flagship smartphone range. So to make the anniversary special, Samsung might bring its latest cutting-edge technologies together in the Galaxy S10 Special Edition.

In an earlier report, Samsung was said to be considering using a DPSS M9 OLED display for its next generation of Galaxy S series flagships. Today, the WSJ report has revealed that in addition to the above, Samsung could also fit up to six cameras on the Galaxy S10 Special Edition - four cameras are said to be on the back with two cameras on the front.

Additionally, if the 5G rumors are true, then Samsung might also use the next-gen Snapdragon 8150 chipset in the Galaxy S10 Special Edition, given that Qualcomm’s next flagship chipset will come with a X50 5G modem. It is not known yet if Samsung’s own Exynos 9820 chipset includes 5G capabilities, which further increases the possibilities of Snapdragon 8150 being chosen.

Coming to the cameras, the Galaxy S10 Special Edition is expected to feature a regular camera, one wide-angle camera and one monochrome lens. Some reports suggest that Samsung could add 3D sensing abilities on the Galaxy S10 Special Edition with a Time of Flight (TOF) lens, but details in this regard are scant.

Samsung is expected to show off all the four models of the Galaxy S10 around February, possibly around Mobile World Congress. However, while the regular variants are expected to be available soon after the launch, the 5G variant might hit the markets later in Spring (end of Q1 2019 or in Q2 2019). The launch of the 5G variant also depends on carriers enabling 5G services, so that will also be an important factor in deciding the availability of the Galaxy S10 Special Edition.
