Ending weeks of speculation, popular music streaming service Spotify has been officially launched in India. The service went live yesterday and is available on Android, iOS and web.
The streaming service will be available in free and paid tiers, with the paid subscription starting at ₹119 per month, going up to ₹1,189 per year. In addition to this, the service is also offering top-up packs for as little as ₹13 per day.
Spotify offers music recommendations in several Indian languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu and Tamil. Users will get tailored daily mixes, radio, daily recommendations, as well as playlists from popular Bollywood, Punjabi, Tollywood and Kollywood actors. Additionally, users will also get city recommendations that tracks what’s trending in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai.
Interested users in the country will be have the option of getting a 30-day trial that offers all the features of the paid service. Like its other markets, the streaming service has also introduced its ad-supported free tier in India.
Students in the country will be able to avail a student discount and select from either a subscription model of ₹59 per month or pre-paid model for ₹66 for 30 days.
For pre-paid subscription, Spotify accepts payments through Paytm, UPI, debit cards and credit cards. The recurring monthly subscription can be subscribed using only Visa or Mastercard debit and credit cards at the moment.
Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, in a statement said, “As Spotify grows, our goal is to bring millions of artists and billions of fans together from every country and background. India has an incredibly rich music culture and to best serve this market, we're launching a custom-built experience. Not only will Spotify bring Indian artists to the world, we'll also bring the world's music to fans across India. Spotify's music family just got a whole lot bigger."
