Thailand-based RRQ Athena wins PUBG Mobile Star Challenge 2018 

Thailand-based Team RRQ Athena has been crowned as the champion of the PUBG Mobile Star Challenge 2018 Global Finals that was held in Dubai. The championship was the first such event hosted by PUBG Corp and Tencent Games, starting on November 29 and concluding on December 1.

Twenty teams had participated in the PUBG Mobile Star Challenge 2018 Global Finals with up to hundred players taking part. The championship had over $6,00,000 to be won in total. The teams came from several regions, including Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Japan/Korea and China to compete for bragging rights and global exposure.

Coming out on top of the challenge were Team RRQ Athena from Thailand, followed by Team CPT from China in the second place and Team LH Douyu in the third place. Team Terrifying Nightmares had represented India during the contest and ended up with the sixteenth place in the contest, managing 16 kills and scoring 1,030 points.

“After all of the anticipation and attention from everyone in the gaming world, we finally have a champion for the PMSC 2018 Global Finals,” said Vincent Wang, General Manager of Global Publishing Center, Tencent. “Congratulations goes out to RRQ Athena, who played some amazing matches over the three-day international tournament that showcased our game’s playability and action. This event caps an amazing year for PUBG MOBILE with industry award wins, cross promotions, and the PMSC 2018 Global Finals. Next year promises to build upon this success as our game continues to take over.”

Furthermore, the PMSC 2018 Global Finals raked up to a whopping 60 million viewers online along with 5,000 attendees to the event held in Dubai.

Apart from that, PUBG Corp also announced a cross-branding partnership with Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 that is all set to launch in January 2019. Vincent Wang was quoted as saying, “We’re thrilled to enter this partnership with Capcom and their iconic Resident Evil game, and look forward to an exciting collaboration that will delight fans of both franchises. It will present a combination of the world’s most popular mobile game and a video game masterpiece that will be well worth the wait.”
