Xiaomi Play expected to be launched on December 24

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi was recently in the news after the company’s president, Bin Lin shared an image of the device that revealed a 48MP primary camera phone will be launched in January.

Now, a leak has suggested that before this, the company may also launch an affordable gaming smartphone in China, dubbed as Xiaomi Play. While there has been no confirmation from Xiaomi, the device is expected to be launched on 24 December, Christmas Eve.

A Chinese tipster on Weibo has claimed that Xiaomi is gearing up to launch an affordable gaming smartphone between 17 December and 26 December. The word ‘Play’ suggests that the company is working on an affordable gaming smartphone to take on the Honor Play in its home country.

Some reports have also suggested that Xiaomi may be launching a rebranded version of the POCO F1 in China. The POCO F1 is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 845 SoC and is equipped with Liquid Cooling technology, making it the ideal choice for an affordable gaming smartphone.

It is being speculated that the Xiaomi Play will be launched in a new series and will not be a part of the existing Mi and Redmi series. Xiaomi already has a high-end gaming smartphone in the form of the Black Shark and may be looking to target the budget gaming segment with the Xiaomi Play.

The POCO F1 features a 6.18-inch Full HD+ display and is powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, paired with up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB UFS 2.1 storage.

It features a 12MP + 5MP camera setup on the back and a 20MP camera on the front. It also has an infrared sensor on the front that helps the phone recognize your face in low-light conditions, making its face unlock solution superior to others.

Wrapping up, the POCO F1 offers dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and a USB Type-C port. It packs in a 4,000mAh battery and supports up to Quick Charge 4+, although the box contains a Quick Charge 3.0 adapter only.
