Xiaomi Redmi Go has been finally launched in India today. The Redmi Go is the company’s cheapest device in India, and runs on stock Android.

Essentially, if you’re looking for an extremely basic smartphone for things like calling, SMS and WhatsApp, but still want the freedom to possibly install other Android apps, the Redmi Go might be the perfect device for you. It also runs on an optimized version of stock Android, so you can expect the performance to be smoother than other smartphones in this price range.

Redmi Go specifications

The Redmi Go seems like a blast from the past with its 5-inch HD resolution display with 16:9 aspect ratio and chunky bezels. However, given its price, there is hardly any room for complaints.

The Redmi Go runs on Google’s Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) that is a barebones version of the full Android 8.1 Oreo release. It comes preloaded with apps like Gmail Go and YouTube Go that focus on using the bare minimum resources, whether it is about the memory/storage or data. Xiaomi also showed off lightweight Go versions of other third-party apps that you can find on the device, including Facebook Lite.

Powering the Redmi Go is the Snapdragon 425 chipset, which is paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, with an option to expand it up to 128GB using a microSD card.

In terms of imaging, the Redmi Go sports an 8MP camera on the back along with an LED flash and a 5MP camera on the front for selfies and video calling.

Other features of the Redmi Go include dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.

Xiaomi Redmi Go pricing and availability

The Xiaomi Redmi Go is priced at ₹4,499, which is considerably lower than the Philippines launch price, which was approximately ₹6,500. This bodes well for Xiaomi, as the Redmi Go is the cheapest smartphone from the company in India.
