Fear not! Delhi government has risen to the challenge!

The Delhi Government perceives this issue as a matter of grave importance and feels its imperative to alert the citizens on the dangers that threaten the existence of and the urgency of preserving these ancient structures.

The Delhi Government plans to promote and preserve these ancient obelisks and monuments as centers of arts and culture by hosting weekly programs- heritage walks, daastangoi, mushairas, folk dance shows, and so on.

A list of approximately 52 monuments in Delhi are lined up for restoration and beautification. Some of the monuments that are lined up for the project are Qudsia Bagh, Bhuli Bhatiyari Ka Mahal, Bawana Zail, Begumpur Masjid, and Bade Lao Ka Gumbad.

Due to the lack of proper mechanisms and resources regarding the preservation of the monuments, they are highly vulnerable to dilapidation! While the State Archaeology Department (SAD) undertakes the restoration projects of various ancient structures every year but the lack of foot-fall at such places has increased vandalism and other unwanted activities.

Shortage of Delhi quartzite stone has led to delays in the conservation work but after overcoming the hurdles, the work will begin from February, 2019.
