When it comes to public transport in the city, Delhi Metro takes the cake with its interwoven modern rail network and the wide ranging accessibility. Meanwhile the buses in the city, which are frequented by travelers as much as the metro, have had no developments.
The Delhi bus fleet has received much flak in the recent days, given the dilapidated conditions but that’s all changing soon and how.
With these new buses that have recently been added to the existing fleet, it seems that the new age of Delhi public transport has finally dawned!
What’s the update?
On Tuesday, August 20, the Delhi government inaugurated the first 25 of the 1,000 new standard floor buses, equipped with hydraulic lifts for differently abled, CCTV & a control room, GPS as well as a panic button.
As of now, only 25 of the expected 1,000 buses are operational in Delhi, with 975 more to come. The vision of the authorities is to change the face of Delhi’s public transport with these new buses and to introduce a more comfortable, modern and reliable means of transportation for the public.
Why the need?
Not only are these new buses equipped with technology that’ll make them safer, the buses are overall more inclusive. With the hydraulic lifts, the buses will now be able to extend their services to the differently abled people and the senior citizens as well. The buses are also safer now with the GPS, CCTV cameras and the panic button, for any kind of urgency.
These buses with their modern amenities and comforts will be replacing Delhi’s existing convoy of buses, which is majorly made of rusted and rattling iron frames.
We’re applauding the addition because the inclusivity of the new buses is what makes them distinct and it was much-needed given the diverse crowd thriving here.
