Us Indians have this habit of combining two random cuisines and setting up stalls selling the same and nobody complains! The food usually turns out to be appetizing and without fusion foods, our random food binge wouldn’t have been this fun. Did you know that there’s a combo called Chinjabi which is basically Chinese grub, Indianised with our desi masale? So on a similar and a tastier note, there’s a shipping container like outlet outside Ambience Mall which serves an offbeat cuisine and we bet it’ll be love at first bite for you.
Game of Grills is a specialty Malayali-Arabic quick service restaurant located at the Hawker Street in Ambience Mall, Gurugram. GOG attempts to narrate the story of the Indians in the Middle East and their vibrant culture and cuisine that is an amalgamation of the spices of Kerala and the bold flavours of the Arabian land. It is a testimony to every Malayali’s love for their beloved promised land, “The Gelf” and this unique cuisine is widely popular in the South. Established by a husband-wife duo, GOG is the first brand to introduce this special cuisine in Delhi NCR and Delhizens are digging in.
About the Inception!
Launched in August, 2018, this delish idea was conceived and conceptualized by the husband-wife duo, Zachariah Jacob and Susan Joseph who are true-blue South Indians. Zachariah who is a lawyer by training, is also the founding partner of the popular Malayali restaurant brand in Delhi called Mahabelly. Susan, comes from a Marketing and Public Relations background. Being deep-dyed Keralites, they realized that this cuisine which is extremely popular down south, hadn’t seen much exposure in North India, specifically Delhi- NCR region. Knowing how much Delhities love their grills, they knew they had to introduce this brand of Indo-Arabic cuisine and that’s how GOG was born.
Let’s talk food!
The grilled Al-Faham chicken is one of the bestsellers here, which is a true example of the fusion of Arabic preparations with a touch of South Indian flavours. This dish has an Arabic style of preparation where the chicken (with skin) is marinated overnight with a blend of Arabic spices mix called the "bezar” along with yogurt and other native ingredients. It is then slowly grilled flat lay on charcoal using a barbeque grill net mesh. The chicken placed between the grill mesh is hard pressed above the burning charcoal so that it cooks soft and tender, giving it a smokey whiff. This sui generis style of grilling, coupled with the special spice mix makes Al-Faham, a dish worth every drool. Smokey charcoal flavoured crispy skin on the outside and succulent meat on the inside makes this a mass favourite.
When here and confused about what to order, go straight for the barbeques, Kerala style shawarmas, falafel rolls and definitely don’t shy away from the lamb chelow kebabs. If you’re a vegetarian, the menu here will suit your cravings too. They offer a plethora of vegetarian dishes which are delicious, pocket-friendly and also healthy owing to the fresh ingredients and the grilling techniques!
Presently, there is just one outlet which is located at the Hawker Street situated outside the Ambience Mall and after a shopping spree when the tummy will rumble, head here straight! Complete with shakes and coolers, chaperoned by vibrant vibes, Game of Grills is an ideal place for a day out with the squad or maybe a cozy meal with your fam-jam.
