Delhi Metro is frequented by people of all ages but that doesn't mean different age groups get to pay separate fares too. However, that's something that could change in the coming days with the help of a new technology that will help identify passengers and thereby offer a discount.
With the help of this new technology, the metro fares for senior citizens and students might come down very soon. Read on to know all about the new development.
What's the update?
Delhi Metro is constantly evolving to meet our ever increasing demands. And this move of reducing rates for senior citizens and students is something that was being demanded quite a lot. Students mostly have to live on a shoestring budget and cheaper metro rides would be a big relief for their pockets.
As of now, there is no such fare concession for anyone using the metro, so it will be interesting to see exactly how the new move pans out. With the help of technology, the DMRC aims to ensure that the facility for students and senior citizens is not misused. This was one of the major hurdles that the DMRC has to cross.
How much discount will be given?
What is not known yet is the extent of this fare drop. We have no word on exactly how much the ticket prices will fall, which makes it difficult to assume how beneficial this move actually will be. However, discounts on travel are welcome and this could actually prove as a beneficial economic model for Delhi Metro.
Earlier in the year, there were plans to make Delhi Metro free for women but that hasn't been implemented yet. Officials are still debating whether it should be for all women, or will it depend on a need basis. At any rate, the extended facility for students and senior citizens is a step in the right direction.
It seems that Delhi Metro officials are really trying to pull in travellers. Though the metro sees a more than respectful footfall on a daily basis, this move should further increase the appeal and ridership of the metro.
