In case you haven't heard, AAI and GMR had been planning to do away with lengthy check-in procedures at IGI airport. In order to make checking in an easier task, trial runs for facial recognition check-ins have begun, starting today. Passengers flying Vistara are some of the first who can be a part of this experiment and give their valuable feedback.

What's the update?

After a lot of rumors and talks surrounding the viability of this move, IGI airport authorities have finally gone ahead and installed the technology. At its core, the new technology will help ensure that check-in times are reduced.

Since the trials will last three months, DIAL will get a chance to gauge responses over a period of time, from all sorts of different sources. Following that, they will be able to make any changes, if necessary.

How can you be a part of the trials?

All you have to do is book yourself on a flight with Air Vistara and you can see for yourself how facial recognition works. The first of its kind in India, facial recognition check-in technology is safer, faster and removes the need for an attendant who hands you your boarding pass.

Though the facial recognition technology is made secure using an array of high-tech cameras and 3D face mapping, CISF personnel will still check your credentials for any discrepancies.

What are the benefits of facial recognition technology?

For one, with the help of this new technology you can expect faster check-ins and less queues at boarding pass counters. Apart from that, these also bring about a new degree of safety and precautions that will make you more confident in taking flights.

Apart from that, it marks IGI airport as one of the most progressive airports not only in India, but across the world as well. This is a rather rare technology that is not even implemented in many international airports.

Knock Knock

As of now, this technology will only be implemented on a trial basis. Following the response after the three month trial period, facial recognition technology will be implemented on a wider scale.
