Always wanted to go to Old Delhi for the food and shopping but the traffic and lack of parking spaces got you down? Often times, this is what dissuades people from visiting the culture rich place and now, it may be time to bid adieu to your woes because North Delhi Municipal Corporation is planning to construct a multilevel parking space in Old Delhi.

What’s the update?

Owing to many traffic and parking related issues, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to construct over 5000 parking spaces in Old Delhi. Markets such as Sadar Bazaar, Chandni Chowk and Naya Bazaar are part of the areas that will get new parking spaces.

Since these places are frequented by shoppers and tourists, it is vital that they remain congested and provide a better experience to visitors. As part of another move, the NDMC has also decided to reserve 5% of all government parking spaces in North Delhi to be reserved for women and differently abled people. This comes as a great service to the ladies as now, finding a parking space will become easier for them.

Why the need?

There’s no denying that parking hassles in not only Old Delhi, but all of the national capital are a menace to society. People visit places and often park their vehicles in a haphazard manner, thereby blocking roads and leading long, traffic jams.

Due to the lack of organized parking spaces, many people even bring their vehicles in the gullies and lanes of the areas, honking horns and creating a ruckus for shoppers and persons on foot.

With the new parking spaces, the markets will become decongested thereby not only increasing the footfall of the bazaars, but also the appeal and bring back the old world charm of the place.

Whom will it benefit?

The upcoming parking spaces should benefit pretty much any one who frequents these places. It will make parking a breeze and herald an era of organized traffic as well as parking. The 5% reservation will also be beneficial for women as they no longer have to worry about the safety of their cars or two wheelers.

The move by NDMC is nothing short of spectacular and will surely improve the traffic conditions in the city. In the future, we hope to see more such developments from not only Northern Delhi, but from other regions of the capital as well.
