Travelling between Shirdi and Mumbai will become exceptionally fast with the newly introduced Train 18. The train is expected to cut travel time by 6 hours, taking merely 3 hours to reach from Mumbai to Shirdi, while normal trains take around 9 hours for the same.
Shirdi is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Maharashtra, experiencing the influx of a ton of pilgrims and tourists, alike. Among those who visit Shirdi, a high percentage of people are domestic travelers from Mumbai and a ton of tourist who come to Mumbai and then decide to head to Shirdi.
The news is a welcome relief for pilgrims who have to travel overnight in the usual trains.
Train 18 is a semi-high speed train which was made in India to replace the older train models and provide people with a more comfortable and seamless mode of transportation.
Officials of the Central Railway believe that the Mumbai-Shirdi rail route experiences lesser footfall owing to the length of the journey and with the new train the footfall is sure to increase. The hope is that given the comfort and the speed of the train, people would prefer it over travelling by road which takes three hours as well.
The route on which the train would operate, the docking and maintenance area is still under consideration. Though if reports are to be believed the train could take either of the Pune-Daund or Manmad railway station route.
