It won't be wrong to say that the local trains run Mumbai. The entire city, its economy and the people are dependant on the local trains and their run time/ schedule. The daily commuters, office goers, vendors and students, all have to depend on the trains and their schedule to start their day and go about their businesses.
Local trains and the dabbawallas are Mumbai's heartbeat and we cannot imagine the city without. To ensure that the commuters are connected to this lifeline at all times, the Mumbai division of Central Railways is set to develop an app which will inform passengers about every relevant information related to the Mumbai local trains.
How will it be helpful?
The app which is yet under development and requires clearance is called "Yatri" as of now.
Other than informing commuters about the disruption they might face while travelling with the trains, the app will also help passengers listen to announcements, get outstation time-tables, train running schedule, know the position of compartments on the trains, book battery-operated cars and porters and will also let commuters know about the amenities available at each station.
Once tested and approved, the app will allow passengers to plan their journey and avail necessary information about the trains.
Meri Local app
Apart from the said app, another app is said to be hitting the ground in August which will track trains through GPS and let people know about the location of their train. This application might possibly be integrated with the 'Yatri' app to help passengers get all the information under one app.
