50th International Film Festival of India, to begin in Goa, from 20th November

With movies playing an important role in popular culture, the art of movie-making is something we're all familiar with. We live and breathe cinema, we fall in love with the characters, connect to them and feel a distinct familiarity with them, falling in love with the film itself.

If you're someone who loves films, cinematography and the art of capturing a fleeting, yet pristine moment on screen, you know and look at film festivals as your Mecca. Have you fallen so irrevocably in love with cinema and feel that there's no getting out of it? If your answer is yes, then you surely need to be a part of the International Film Festival of India happening in Goa from November 20.

50 splendid years of celebrating Indian & International cinema

The International Film Festival of India is an old and long standing celebration of everything cool that cinema has to offer us. Starting as the first international film festival of India as well as Asia, IFFI has made a long journey.

This year marks the 50th anniversary for IFFI, hence the year will feature over 200 best films from 76 countries, along with 26 feature films and 15 non-feature films in home-made section. The 50th IFFi will open and close with Italian films, starting off with Goran Paskaljevic's ‘Despite the Fog’ and closing off with Mohsen Makhmalbaf's ‘Marghe and Her Mother’.

While a special screening of Amitabh Bacchhan's classic 'Sholay' will become a centre point of attraction for the festival, cinema legend Rajnikanth will be honoured as the special icon of the festival.

More power to Women

The festival has made a visible effort to commemorate and distinguish the females of cinema. French actor Isabella Huppert will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award while 50 films of 50 women Directors from all around the globe will also be screened at the festival, according to recent report by AIR.
