Adani's Ahmedabad team for Women's Premier League receives new name; to be called 'Gujarat Giants'
In a bid to provide exposure and to give a chance to learn and grow together to international as well as domestic players, BCCI is now organizing a dedicated international-level county league for women.
The tentative dates for the tournament remain from March 4 to 24, 2023 and could last for 21 days. This Wednesday, an auction for the sale of the teams was also held during which various interested parties submitted their bids for the WPL franchises. The Adani Group bought the Ahmedabad franchise with the highest bid, from BCCI.
Reportedly, the Ahmedabad WPL team has now been named on the namesake of the Adani-owned Pro Kabbadi League team, 'Gujarat Giants'.
Moreover, as per the recent reports, notable women's ex-cricket player and ex-captain of India's women's team, Mithali Raj is also set to join Gujarat Giants as the mentor for WPL.
The initial season of the Women's Premier League will include a total of 5 teams. The tournament is expected to provide better exposure to women cricketers of India and abroad and will also pave the way for development at the grassroots level with the inclusion of more women cricketers.
