The International Kite Festival is set to return to Ahmedabad, offering an unmissable spectacle for both locals and visitors. As part of the official Uttarayan celebrations, this renowned festival, which first launched in 1989, has grown to become one of Gujarat’s most significant cultural events.

Scheduled from the 11th to 14th of January 2025, the festival will feature 143 international kite flyers from 47 countries and 52 national participants from 11 states. The Gujarat Tourism Department is organising this grand event at the Sabarmati Riverfront.

Witness diverse types of kites from around the world!

The festival kicks off on the 11th of at 9 AM at Vallabh Sadan Riverfront with a vibrant inaugural ceremony, including a cultural program, the Aditya Stuti Vandana recited by Rishikumars, and a grand parade of both international and national kite flyers.

The festival is an opportunity to witness the coming togther of global kite-making traditions. Over the years, kite enthusiasts from various countries have brought their unique styles to the event, adding to the diversity of the experience.

Malaysia’s wau-balang kites, Indonesia’s llayang-llayang, and Japan’s rokkaku fighting kites are just some of the impressive displays that have graced the skies. Visitors can also expect to see larger-than-life banner kites from the United States, intricate sculptural kites from Italy, and Chinese flying dragons—each showcasing different kite-making techniques and cultural significance.
