The Outpatient Department (OPD) building at Asarwa Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, which has been serving patients for 65 years, is slated for a significant renovation. The building, which caters to approximately 4,000 patients daily, will be equipped with central air conditioning and will undergo extensive interior refurbishments.
Additionally, two new wings will be constructed for registration and pharmacy services. To further ease congestion, some OPDs will be relocated to the nearby 1,200-bed hospital.
City police boosts security measures for festivals
Following directives from the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner, enhanced security measures will be in place during the upcoming festivals. Areas with Ganesh pandals, identified as sensitive, will see an increased police presence and continuous patrolling.
The city’s extensive CCTV network will be fully utilized for monitoring, while areas lacking sufficient CCTV coverage will be under surveillance using videographers, body-worn cameras, and drones. The police will maintain strict vigilance over individuals with a history of involvement in communal disturbances, taking necessary action when required.
AMC to develop 7 iconic roads at an estimated cost of ₹350 crore
The Municipal Corporation plans to transform seven major roads in Ahmedabad, including Iskcon and Prahladnagar, into iconic roads at an estimated cost of ₹350 crore. These roads will span a total length of 20.6 kilometers. One of the key projects involves developing the road from Kenyug Crossroads to Shyamal Crossroads, extending up to SG Highway, themed around the Olympics.
The development will include various attractions such as mobile charging points, walking tracks, vending zones, gazebos, and sculptures. The longest of these iconic roads will be Ashram Road, stretching 5 kilometers and themed around the Gandhi Ashram.

The railway underpass near Anmol Bunglows in New Ranip will be closed for two days due to essential repair work by the Municipal Corporation. The closure, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, is required to fix a broken iron grille used for rainwater drainage. To carry out these repairs, the underpass will remain completely closed to vehicular traffic.
Motorists are advised to take alternative routes via Anand Party Plot, Gayatri Garnala, and Chandlodia Bridge during this period.
