Ahmedabad residents no longer need to submit affidavits for minor changes to birth certificates, such as adding ‘bhai’ or ‘kumar’ to a father’s name. This clarification was made by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) during a standing committee meeting on Tuesday.

An AMC official explained that recent updates to the eKYC system now allow such amendments, including suffix additions or surname changes, without the need for affidavits. While some applicants still submit affidavits when assigning the task to others, the official confirmed this step is no longer necessary.

The move follows a significant rise in amendment applications, from 50 to 500 daily requests, causing long queues at AMC offices. With over 60,000 requests received in just one month, the AMC has announced that residents can now submit birth certificate change applications at Urban Health Centers and civic centers.
