First pre-monsoon showers bring respite to Amdavadis

Ahmedabad experienced a welcome change in weather on Sunday as light pre-monsoon showers provided relief from the scorching 43.1°C heat. Several areas in the western parts of the city reported light rain and gusty winds, much to the citizens' delight.

However, the relief may be short-lived, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts an increase in heat and humidity on Monday. The IMD also predicts light rainfall with thunderstorms across South Gujarat.

Residents file complaint against AMC for cutting down trees on IIM-Panjrapole stretch

Residents of the IIM-Panjrapole road area have lodged a complaint against the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) after contractors cut down two full-grown trees on Saturday night. Witnesses reported that the tree felling resulted in the deaths of several birds and animals that were the inhabitants of these age-old trees.

The AMC plans to cut down nearly 100 more such trees in the area to build a flyover. However, local residents are protesting the decision, aiming to protect the natural ecosystems.

Experimental noise barriers to be installed on 2 city flyovers

In response to persistent complaints about noise pollution, the AMC plans to install noise barriers on a pilot basis on the Income-Tax flyover and the Thakkarbapa Nagar flyover. The effectiveness of these barriers will be closely monitored to assess their impact on reducing noise pollution.

"If the experiment proves successful, we plan to extend the initiative to other flyovers across the city," said an AMC official.

Ongoing redevelopment of Balvatika at Kankaria Kakefront

Renovation of Balvatika at Kankaria Lakefront has begun, leading to its closure for visitors from June 5. The redevelopment project, costing 15 crores and executed under a public-private partnership model, will include upgrades to existing attractions and the introduction of new ones such as Snow Park, Wax Museum, Shoe House, Lazy River, Glow House, Mirror House, and Traffic Park.

The renovation is expected to be completed within a year, after which Balvatika will reopen to the public.

Heritage cleaning drive at Riverfront

A heritage cleaning drive was organized for the ancient temples at Ram Bari, Bhadra, in collaboration with the Corporation. The drive aims to reduce filth and curb the harassment by anti-social elements, making it easier for devotees to visit the Shivalay temples.

Townspeople and municipal cleaning workers participated in the effort. Additionally, there are plans to renovate the 125-year-old Shivalayam near Ganapati Temple to preserve its historical significance and cleanliness.
