The Chief Minister has approved ₹32.4 crore for the restoration of Ahmedabad’s historic Ellis Bridge under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Urban Development Scheme. Built in 1892, Ellis Bridge was the first bridge over the Sabarmati River, connecting east and west Ahmedabad.
The steel structure of the bridge has been completely closed for the past 10 years due to weathering effects that have rendered it dilapidated and dangerous. Once restored, it will reopen as a footbridge.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts moderate rain and thundershowers for Tuesday. Monday saw cloudy skies with some areas experiencing light drizzles.
