Red Traffic signals to remain off during peak heat hours

Amdavadis are witnessing the onset of a scorching summer, with the prolonged waits at traffic signals making matters worse. However, there's a glimmer of relief amidst the sweltering heat. The Traffic Department has decided to alleviate some of the discomfort by keeping red signals switched off at 100 major junctions across the city from 12 PM to 4 PM. During these hours, only the yellow blinkers will be active, offering a smoother flow of traffic.

To ensure the safety and efficiency of vehicular movement during this period, traffic police personnel will be deployed at these key points.

IMD warns of above-normal heat waves in Gujarat

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for Gujarat, forecasting an increase in the frequency of heat wave days this summer. Citing the El Niño effect, western regions of India, including Gujarat, are expected to experience higher-than-average temperatures.

The third week of April is anticipated to be particularly intense, with prolonged heat waves posing challenges for residents throughout the season.

Adjusting school hours to shield students from rising temperatures

For the welfare of students amidst escalating temperatures, the Ahmedabad District Panchayat Education Committee has taken proactive measures. Effective from April 1st to June 30th, government primary schools will operate from 7 AM to 12 PM, shielding children from the peak heat hours. Municipal corporation schools will also adhere to these new timings, with classes starting from 7:10 AM.

Furthermore, schools with afternoon sessions will adjust their schedules, running from 12 PM to 5 PM on weekdays and 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM on Saturdays.
