Progress update on Metro's Phase-2 construction

The ongoing construction of Ahmedabad Metro's Phase-2, covering a 28 km route from Motera to Mahatma Mandir, is progressing smoothly. The route involves an extra dosed cable-stayed bridge over the Narmada Canal which is in the final stage of construction. This bridge boasts a central span (girder) of 145 meters and two flanking spans of 79 meters each, resulting in a total length of 303 meters.

The trial run of the metro train on the Motera to Gandhinagar Sector-1 route is scheduled to commence in April.

Inauguration of State-of-the-Art Auditorium in Shela

Gujarat Chief Minister inaugurated a modern auditorium constructed by Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) in Shela, costing Rs 42 crores. The auditorium, spanning 9260 square meters with a buildup area of 10,642 square meters, features state-of-the-art facilities and a seating capacity of 1054 people.

Additionally, the venue includes a banquet hall with a total capacity of 500 people, while the parking area covers 5060 square meters.

Concerns raised over Ahmedabad's groundwater quality

Recent data presented by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti in Lok Sabha reveals alarming conditions of groundwater in Ahmedabad. The analysis shows excessive levels of fluoride, salinity, nitrate, iron, and lead in the city's groundwater.

Notably, 51 wells assessed in Gujarat fall into overexploited, critical, and semi-critical categories, posing potential risks to both drinking water and irrigation, leading to various health issues.

AMC intensifies crackdown on illegal parking by locking vehicles

In response to the escalating traffic issues in Ahmedabad, the AMC has implemented stringent measures against individuals engaging in illegal roadside parking. The municipal commissioner has issued directives to immobilize vehicles found parked illegally.

Currently, the department locks up over 300 vehicles daily across various city areas. Notably, more than 25 individuals face enforcement actions daily, leading to fines being imposed as part of the initiative to address the persistent problem.

With Valentine's Day, the city braces for potential incidents of moral policing and harassment from various groups. In response, the Ahmedabad City Police is intensifying measures by deploying police forces, including SHE team members, at identified vulnerable points.
