Ahmedabad records 36.1°C temp in Aug for 4th time in a decade
On Monday, Ahmedabad’s maximum temperature soared to 36.1°C, up from 35°C the previous day, marking the fourth time in 10 years that August temperatures have reached this high. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this was 3.5°C above the normal for this time of year.
The rise in temperature, along with high humidity levels due to moisture from South Gujarat, has contributed to the heat. Clear skies with reduced cloud cover have further intensified the sun’s rays, adding to the discomfort.
Martial Arts training provided to doctors at B.J. Medical College
On the fourth day of ongoing protests at Ahmedabad’s B.J. Medical College, a martial arts training session was organised for female doctors. Led by martial arts expert Rishiraj Jaiswal, the training focused on self-defense techniques to enhance safety and fitness. Ahmedabad hoopster Aahana George selected for Indian U-18 women’s basketball team
Aahana George, a promising basketball player from Ahmedabad, has been named to the Indian U-18 women’s basketball team. The announcement was made by the Gujarat State Basketball Association (GSBA).
The team will compete in the FIBA 3×3 U-18 Women’s World Cup 2024, set to take place in Debrecen, Hungary, from August 26-30. India is placed in Pool C, alongside Japan, China, Uganda, and Kyrgyzstan.
3 city gardens to be developed under PPP model by UN Mehta Foundation
Torrent Group’s UN Mehta Foundation has entered into a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to develop, maintain, clean, and operate three city gardens. The foundation will execute these tasks according to a plan approved by the AMC.
The three gardens included in this initiative are the Haren Pandya Garden in Vasna, the AUDA Garden in Jodhpur, and the AMC Garden adjacent to Gulmohar Villa on Science City Road.
‘Jan Poshan Kendra’ set to launch on Aug 20 in Ahmedabad
In a new pilot project by the Department of Food and Public Distribution of India, 15 Fair Price Shops (FPS) in Ahmedabad have been converted into ‘Jan Poshan Kendra’ centres. These centres aim to enhance public nutrition and food distribution.
The official inauguration of these centres will take place on August 20th at 10:00 AM at the Fair Price Shop ‘Sabarmati Madhyamvarg Co. Ltd.’
